Workers need a way to speak up for their shared interests, negotiate the terms of their employment, and, when necessary, have a system for resolving problems. Working people don’t always have the voice they need in the workplace or the tools to resolve these issues alone. That’s why unions matter.

Union workers earn substantially more than their non-union peers (up to 30% more) with higher-than-average access to benefits, including quality healthcare.

Job security and a grievance procedure

A union contract provides a forum in which you can dispute company practices that adversely affect your job and defend you against unfair layoffs or discharges.

A fair and safe workplace

Unions provide workers a voice through a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and ensure fair treatment and equal rights under the CBA. Under the law as a non-union worker, you are an “at-will” employee, which means you may be fired any time the employer chooses, without justified cause.
